Albergo Italia
is headquartered
in the
Palazzo Giura
Longo, which
dates back to
the XVII century
and which the
genteel family
of the same name
has always used
as a private
residence. In
the following
century, part of
the palazzo was
entrusted to a
private manager
who transformed
it into the
Albergo Italia,
the first of its
kind still in
existence in
Matera. In
1959, the hotel
passed to the
direct
management of
the family, and
in particular
was entrusted to
the attention of
Rosalia, a
distinguished
Lady originally
from Trento who,
a few years
before, had
married
Pietro Giura
Longo.
Through the
incorporation of
the private
residence in
1996, an
additional 15
rooms were added
to the core
reception area
of 32 rooms,
bringing the
total number of
available rooms
in Albergo
Italia to 47.
